Not so anonymous Katie
Hi I’m Pamela and I’m an alcoholic. This is my story. I grew up in the “All American Family!” Parents never fought and we have had amazing times! I never really drank in high school and promptly went off to college. Four years at Bridgewater State College and I drank the same as others, no red flags then. I met my future husband and got married in 1998. We had a big wedding, two dogs, and a cute house. You know all the “yuppy stuff.” I drank a bit more then.
We had 2 kids and built a 4,000 sq foot home. Once we moved into the new home the partying began. Wine, wine, wine……Friends over all the time. Well, the drinking led to divorce. But, that didn’t stop me from drinking. I drank more! I met a new guy and our relationship was based on booze. Vodka, vodka, vodka! Nips, nips, nips. But I still did NOT have a problem! Ha ha ha Ha! After 13 years we parted. Yet again, I kept drinking.
I was back on the market and started dating always with a drink in hand! February of 2022 came around, and I had a fun Sunday! I was ending the day with Netflix and alarms went off. So, I hurriedly grabbed the dog to get us both out of the house to safety, and I fell down the stairs. I woke up at Rhode Island Hospital with a brain bleed. Quit drinking until summer! But it didn’t last and I started back up again. I drank every chance I could get! Vodka was flowing!
In March of 2023 my boyfriend of 5 months and I broke up. I spent a week drowning myself in caramel vodka! On 3/12/23 I had my last drink at 6pm. Enough was enough! I was tired of feeling sick and tired. I went to a few AA meetings and liked the social part but have done this on my own. Everyone has a different journey!!!!
My life is amazing now without alcohol! I am damn proud of myself! My rock bottom wasn’t as bad as it could have been but it was time!
